Brand identity & website to promote Lancashire's innovation

Innovate Lancashire focuses on driving innovation, research and development, investment, and business growth across the county.

EXP was commissioned by Lancashire County Council to deliver a new brand identity and website for Innovate Lancashire. The goal was to create a clear, modern, and engaging platform that promotes Lancashire as a destination for innovation and investment.


Approach

Taking inspiration from Lancashire’s industrial past, we designed a bold identity centred around a confident wordmark, knitted together with a red thread that runs throughout the brand assets as a nod to the county’s manufacturing and textile past, once producing over half of the world’s cotton.

The identity flexibly resizes to the canvases on digital and offline platforms for maximum impact.

The brand promotes the programme as forward-thinking, inclusive, and connected to put Lancashire on the map, appealing to start-ups, scale-ups, academics, local authorities, and investors.

We created a simple brand identity system that communicates confidence and collaboration.

Inspired by the red rose, the limited colour palette gives a contemporary connection to the county, adapting to Innovate Lancashire’s projects and marketing campaigns.

The thread connects the county, animating across people and places as a nod to Innovate Lancashire’s work behind the scenes.

Website

The bespoke website has been designed as a hub for business and a marketing tool for investors and government.

The responsive design demonstrates the flexibility of the identity, with dynamic threads, scrolling marquees, and subtle animations to bring the brand to life.

Users can browse through projects, events, news, and insights to review case studies, funding opportunities, and success stories.

The flexible content management system (CMS) enables the Innovate Lancashire team to update content independently and scale as new initiatives launch.

The website is fully optimised for SEO performance, helping the programme attract organic traffic from businesses and investors searching for innovation opportunities in Lancashire.

Outcomes

By combining a strong visual identity with a high-performing website, EXP has equipped Innovate Lancashire with the tools to tell its story, attract investment, and support innovation-led growth across the region.

The identity and website have given a renewed energy and more visibility to the county’s innovation programmes, centralising information and housing their new Dealroom platform to demonstrate investment and deals.
